Famous Labradors

Did you know that almost 70 percent of all guide dogs from the United States are Labradors? If you own a dog you surely can tell why. As you know, Labs are the most popular breed in UK and US as well. The breed is very intelligent and energetic, affable and good natured as well. That makes them perfect pets and working dogs.  You will most likely find Labs with roles in tracking, detection and hunting, carting and therapy work because they have a high work ethic.

Because of their popularity as a breed and also they popularity for their service in many countries, we can relate to a lot of famous Labradors from their beginnings until now.

As assistance dogs we can mention Endal, Lucy,Timber and Dorado.

Endal is a service dog. He`s in England and is the most decorated dog in the world. He was the first dog to ride on the London Eye and the very first dog that placed a human in the recovery position, without training, in a blackout.

Lucy is a very well-known guide dog. David Blunkett is the owner and another aspect of his dog fame is the fact that once vomited in the British House of Commons, during a speech.

Timber was named the dog of the year after saving his owner during a traffic collision.

Dorado is famous from the Twin Towers attacks in 2001. Dorado led his owner, Omar Riviera, 70 stories before the Tower collapsed. Newspapers said “Riviera even tried to release Dorado so the dog could have a better chance at survival, but found the dog would not leave his side”.

As police, military, rescue and detection dogs the most known are Jake, Sadie, Zanjeer, Lucky and Flo.

Jake is a canine hero that  helped in the search of survivors at the 9 eleven attacks and also for Hurricane Katrina victims ,2005.He died at 12 years old of cancer. Sadie saved soldiers in Afghanistan. Zanjeer helped recover 57 bombs country made, 11 military bombs, 175 petrol bombs, 242 grenades and 600 detonators.

Lucky and Flo are twin Black Labrador counterfeit detection dogs. They became famous in 2007 for “sniffing out nearly 2 million pirated counterfeit DVDs” for the Motion Picture Association of America. Two years after that, they repeated a similar feat in several Queens and New York stores.

There you have it. Very famous Labrador dogs that should definitely tell you something: It`s in their blood! Take good care of your dog and train him well. In the near future the results will be visible.
